Profile
Prof. Dr. Ali Dad Chandio is a distinguished Metallurgical Engineer, Materials Scientist, academic leader, consultant, and researcher with over 20 years of professional experience. He is currently serving as the Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering, NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi, Pakistan. He earned a prominent British scholarship and completed his advanced studies at The University of Manchester, United Kingdom—an internationally top-ranked institution known for excellence in materials science. His academic journey, ingrained exclusively in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, has shaped him into one of Pakistan’s leading voices in advanced materials research and engineering education.
Prof. Chandio has authored over 150 research publications and successfully secured more than 15 national and international research grants, contributing meaningfully to the progress of materials science in Pakistan. His research portfolio spans a wide range of areas, including polymers, surface engineering, biomaterials, steels, solar materials, corrosion, and mineral beneficiation, with special emphasis on materials relevant to Pakistan's industrial and economic growth. He leads the influential “Advanced Materials & Sustainable Environments” research group, comprising numerous PhD scholars, Master’s students, research assistants, and undergraduate researchers. Under his mentorship, the group is recognized for its innovative work on advanced coatings, sustainable materials, armoring materials, solar panel ageing, and environmental applications in terms of CO2 minimization by metallic halides.
As a consultant, Prof. Chandio has contributed to Pakistan’s most critical engineering and national development projects. He has worked with foremost institutions, including the Sindh Police, Home Department, Services & General Administration Department, and the World Bank–funded Sindh Barrages Improvement Project. His expertise in failure investigation, materials testing, infrastructure analysis, and engineering consultancy has generated significant revenue for NED University and strengthened its connection with national industries. He has played key roles in projects involving Pakistan’s barrage systems, armoring materials, and support for import–export sectors (Pakistan Customs) as an investigator, expert, and technical advisor. He also supports farmers and the agricultural sector on numerous initiatives, including promoting biochar technologies and encouraging sustainable practices across Pakistan.
Beyond his research and consultancy, Prof. Chandio is deeply committed to academic excellence. He supervises several PhD and Master's theses, teaches with passion, and is dedicated to preparing students for the modern era—especially by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) with materials science. His forward-thinking vision reflects the future of engineering education in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Ali Dad Chandio stands today as a treasured academician, a reform-driven leader, a prolific scientist, and a strong advocate of industry–academia collaboration, dedicated to empowering Pakistan’s next generation of engineers and scientists. in this field.
